Now this is an epic troll job.
The Pawtucket Red Sox, the top minor league affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, have a special “celebration” planned to honor former New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez, and his fiancee, Jennifer Lopez.
Get this. The PawSox are throwing an “engagement party" for J-Rod on April 12th.
The day will feature several A-Rod themed events.
Fans wearing either a Jason Varitek or Bronson Arroyo jersey will get into the game free.
You may remember that on July 24, 2004, Arroyo drilled Rodriguez with a pitch, who then got into it with Varitek, sparking a benches-clearing brawl.
Arroyo also had a problem with Rodriguez in Game 6 of the 2004 ALCS, when the Yankees third baseman slapped a ball out of the pitcher’s glove. A-Rod was busted by the umpires for his actions as New York continued to free-fall into the worst playoff collapse in sports history.
To top it off, Ben Affleck has been invited to throw out the first pitch. Affleck, of course, is a Boston native and long-time Red Sox supporter. He’s also the former boyfriend of Lopez. The pair made several trips to Fenway Park during their time together, including Game 3 of the 2003 ALCS between the Red Sox and Yankees.
After dating J-Lo, Affleck eventually married Jennifer Garner, who also became a regular at Red Sox games with Affleck.
Because of Affleck’s dating history, and J-Lo’s role in it, the PawSox will let anyone named Jennifer attend the game on April 12 for free.
