'Shame on the Academy': Luke Perry, others left out of Oscars 'In Memoriam' segment - USA TODAY

The Oscars "In Memoriam" segment left out some stars who died in 2019, viewers noticed, most notably, Luke Perry.

The "Riverdale" star died in March 2019 at 52 after suffering a massive stroke. The In Memoriam portion of the awards show honors key Hollywood players who have passed since the last awards show.

Perry's absence from the segment was especially noticeable because he had a role (Wayne Maunder) in Quentin Tarantino's "Once Upon a Time in Hollywood," which was up for 10 awards, including best picture. "Parasite" made history by taking home that award.

Perry wasn't the only one fans noticed missing from the In Memoriam segment. Disney actor Cameron Boyce also wasn't recognized.

Boyce, who was known for his roles in "Jessie" and "Descendants," was 20 when he died suddenly in July 2019 from epilepsy.

Sid Haig and Tim Conway, both of whom also passed in 2019, were missing from the telecast, as well.

Fans quickly took notice of the stars' absences in the tribute and expressed their disappointment with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, which presents the Oscars.

"Shame on the academy for not including luke perry in the “in memoriam” tribute. seeing as ‘once upon a time in hollywood’ was the last film he made before he passed AND it was up for best picture, I have no words other than I’m disappointed," wrote @jenjkellerr to Twitter.

"Wait a minute? Let me see if I'm understanding this...the Oscars had a memoriam and somehow Luke Perry was excluded despite that he's in one of the nominated films?!" tweeted @ericastwilight.

"The fact that The Academy failed to include Luke Perry AND Cameron Boyce in their tribute is something I still haven’t been able to wrap my head around," tweeted @sarareneexo.

People on social media noted others who were also left out of the tribute along with Perry and Boyce.

"Are you kidding me? Luke Perry was IN one of the films NOMINATED, Sid Haig is a literal ICON in the horror genre, and Cameron Boyce was one of the biggest stars to come out of Disney in the last 10 years," tweeted @theharassdrop.

"Tim Conway should have been included in the In Memoriam tonight," wrote @fromthebunkerjr.

While Perry, Boyce, Haig and Conway were missing from the In Memoriam telecast, they were included in the Oscars In Memoriam gallery on the Academy's website.
