Vancouver-raised model and Asian film star Godfrey Gao dead at 35 - Vancouver Sun

The supermodel suffered an apparent heart attack while filming a Chinese reality show

Godfrey Gao, the North Vancouver-raised supermodel and star of Chinese cinema, has died after after apparently having a heart attack while filming a reality TV show.

Gao collapsed Tuesday on the set of Chase Me, a competitive sports reality show for China’s Zhejiang Television, in the Chinese city of Ningbo.

Taiwan News, citing Chinese news outlets, reported that an audience member heard Gao shout, “I can’t carry on,” before he fell to the ground.

“Cameramen swarmed around him and kept filming, apparently believing that his actions were part of the show,” Taiwan News reported.

The Hong Kong newspaper Apple Daily reported that CPR was applied at the scene before the 35-year-old Gao was sent to hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Jetsta, Gao’s management team, said in a statement that Godfrey died “following three hours of medical rescue efforts.”

“We are very shocked and saddened and even until now find it impossible to accept,” the statement said. “Thank you media friends and every fan of Godfrey’s for their concern. His management and team were present and his family were urgently rushed to the location.”

Shortly after, condolences began pouring forth from the film community, including from superstar Michelle Yeoh, who shared a photo with Gao to Instagram.

“Deep sadness that such a shining star has left us,” she wrote.

Actor Henry Golding, who starred in last year’s Crazy Rich Asians and has been filming in Vancouver this fall, also posted a message for Gao to Instagram.

“Very sad to hear of the passing of @godfreygao, a huge loss to the community,” wrote Golding. “He inspired so many to follow in his footsteps in film and entertainment, myself included.”

Gao was born in Taipei, in 1984, to a Taiwanese father and a Malaysian mother but grew up in North Vancouver. He went to Queensbury elementary, Argyle secondary and studied at Capilano University before heading to Taipei in 2004 to start his acting career appearing in Taiwanese television dramas.

“I wanted to make a name first here (in Asia) before trying to go for Hollywood,” Gao told the Vancouver Sun in 2013. “Now I hope to get more work in North America, but I’d like to keep playing (the two markets) off each other.”

In 2011, he became the first Asian model to be signed by Louis Vuitton. He made his American film debut in 2013, starring as Magnus Bane in The Mortal Instrument: City of Bones, alongside Lily Collins, Jamie Campbell Bower and Kevin Zegers.

Michelin Drops 'Jiro Dreams of Sushi' Restaurant From Tokyo Guide - HYPEBEAST

Tokyo-based sushi restaurant Sukiyabashi Jiro developed an international following after the release of acclaimed documentary Jiro Dreams of Sushi, which intimately highlighted its founder, Jiro Ono, his staff and restaurant, known as the world’s first three-Michelin-star sushi restaurant. The 2020 edition of the French company’s restaurant guide rolled out this week, revealing that Tokyo still enjoys more Michelin-starred restaurants than any other Michelin-rated city — though these restaurants no longer include Sukiyabashi Jiro, as CNN reports.

In a statement to CNN, a Michelin representative clarified that the legendary sushi restaurant wasn’t being removed due to declining quality — instead, Sukiyabashi Jiro is getting the axe simply because it’s nearly impossible for the average Joe to get a seat. “We recognize [that] Sukiyabashi Jiro does not accept reservations from the general public, which makes it out of our scope,” a Michelin representative said in a statement. “Michelin’s policy is to introduce restaurants where everybody can go to eat.”

Located in Tokyo’s fashionable Ginza neighborhood, the tiny restaurant only seats up to 10 guests and reservations are backed up for years; rumors indicate that would-be customers will have to wait two years for a chance to dine at the establishment. “We are currently experiencing difficulties in accepting reservations and apologize for any inconvenience to our valued customers,” explains Sukiyabashi Jiro’s website. “We at Sukiyabashi Jiro wish it were possible to accommodate all guests at our restaurant, but this is unfortunately not possible given the reality of our situation.”

Ever busy, the 94-year-old Ono still works at Sukiyabashi Jiro alongside his eldest son, serving famous guests like Barack Obama, Hugh Jackman, Katy Perry and Questlove, who take often advantage of the restaurant’s commemorative photograph policy.

Peruse the remaining recommended restaurants on the Michelin Guide website.

Meanwhile, Japan’s food industry was recently in the news for an entirely different reason: a Japanese snow crab sold for a stunning $46,000 USD at auction.

‘Supergirl’ Star Opens Up About Being ‘a Survivor of Domestic Violence’ in Instagram Video - Variety

“Supergirl” star Melissa Benoist has revealed she is a “survivor of domestic violence” in an emotional video posted to her Instagram.

The actor stops short of naming the partner in question who allegedly abused her, but describes him as “charming, funny, manipulative, devious,” and also as being younger than she is.

“I am a survivor of domestic violence or intimate partner violence, which is something I never thought I would say let alone be broadcasting into the ether,” Benoist begins in the video.

She says the violence began around five months into the relationship, and goes on to describe several incidents during which the perpetrator was violent and abusive towards her. The first time it happened, the man threw a smoothie at her face. The bottle smacked her cheek and the liquid went all over her face.

During another incident, her partner threw an iPhone at her face, breaking her nose and almost rupturing her eyeball.

“The stark truth is I learned what it felt like to be pinned down and slapped repeatedly, punched so hard I felt the wind go out of me, dragged by my hair across pavement, head-butted, pinched until my skin broke, shoved against he wall so hard the drywall broke, choked,” she says.

Following each incident, Benoist says her partner lift her up and put her in an empty bathtub, before turning on the faucet and bringing out “the typical abuser’s apology.” Over time, Benoist says that she too became violent and fought back.

After the phone incident, Benoist says she broke off the relationship.

“Something inside of me broke, this was too far, I couldn’t flush this one down,” she says. “None of this is salacious news, it was my reality, what I went through caused a tectonic shift on my outlook on life.”

She began dating the man shortly after getting out of her previous relationship, during “a period of change in her life.” Benoist says jealousy became a large part of the relationship, as the man would snoop on her phone and become angry when she talked to other men.

This began to affect Benoist’s work.

“Work in general was a touchy subject, he didn’t want me ever kissing or even having flirtatious scenes with men which was very hard for me to avoid. So I began turning down auditions, job offers, test deals, friendship because I didn’t want to hurt him,” she says.

Benoist closes the video by saying that she will be healing from the experiences for the rest of her life, and cites a shocking statistic from the Department of Justice that one in four women in the United States aged 18 and older will experience severe physical violence by an intimate partner in their lifetime.

“I want the statistics to change and I hope that telling my story might prevent more stories like mine from happening,” she says.

Prince Charles preparing to take over British crown in 2021: report - Canoe

Prince Charles could become King Charles in a matter of 18 months, according to a report.

Queen Elizabeth’s days as the royal figurehead for the United Kingdom and other British Commonwealth nations such as Canada could come to a close by her 95th birthday, reports Britain’s The Sun.

Sources told the paper that there is talk behind closed doors that the Queen, who has cut down on her royal duties and appearances in recent years, cannot continue forever and that she will “retire” in April 2021.

Her 95th birthday appears to be an appropriate time as her husband, Prince Philip, retired from public life in August 2017 at age 96.

“Planning for Charles to become king has been going on for some time,” the source said. “A transition is plainly already underway. Her Majesty is in her 90s and can understandably only do so much.”

And it appears Charles, 71, had a hand in the Queen’s decision to ban brother Prince Andrew from any further royal duties in the wake of the Duke of York’s past association with American financier and convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, who was found dead in a Manhattan jail cell in August awaiting trial on new sex trafficking charges involving minors.

“The scandal surrounding Andrew and Epstein gave Charles an opportunity to step in to show that he can run The Firm,” the source added. “No one is bigger than the institution of the Royal Family. Not even Andrew, the Queen’s favourite son.

“Charles recognized that and acted decisively – like the king he may well soon be. This was the moment when Charles stepped up as Prince Regent, the Shadow King.”

It appears Prince Charles – when he takes over the crown – is looking to trim the bloated monarchy, and has been in talks with Prince William over its future direction, and specifically Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan’s role in the Royal Family.

“Charles has had discussions with William,” the source said. “They both know what he wants to do with the kingship. There’s no doubt Charles will also be pulling Prince Harry and Meghan into line once they return from their private break.”

Hilaria Baldwin Blasts Trolls Attacking Her for Suffering a Miscarriage - TooFab

When Hilaria Baldwin revealed that she and husband Alec Baldwin had miscarried earlier this month, she might have expected words of support from the online community. And while that did happen, another contingent also came at her and she's finally decided she's had enough.

The 35-year-old took to her Instagram Stories Tuesday night with a series of lengthy written posts about the attacks she's endured from trolls using such inflammatory phrases as "too old," "disgusting" and "attention seeker."

On the one hand, she acknowledged that at that moment in her life, the trolls didn't have as much impact on her because that kind of loss already put her at what she called "rock bottom."

"Rock bottom sucks," she wrote, "But rock bottom is also eye opening. Because you understand and have experienced true pain. It makes the trolls seem even smaller than they usually are. Because no words they can use can ever compare to what you have lost."

She said that people who choose to "bully" women who've suffered miscarriages, no matter their circumstances, "are bringing a cruelty to the world that is wrong. You are contributing to feelings of shame, fear, insufferable pain."

In truth, miscarriages are tragically far more common than "polite society" would have people believe, and it's only in recent years that women have felt more confident in opening up about this lonely suffering.

According to WebMD, as many as half of pregnancies end in miscarraige, though in most of those cases, the woman may not know she was ever pregnant. Among recognized pregnancies, though, the percentages are still quite high, at 15-25 percent.

According to Hilaria, she came forward as a gesture of "love and support" for those other women who have felt like they were suffering alone. "Our system is broken," she wrote. "Time to support and stop the shaming of women, simply trying to create family and love."

She said that she is "trying to promote the gift of being able to share what is going on." Women shouldn't be shamed for having a miscarriage, they shouldn't be judged for it, and they shouldn't be ashamed of it.

And perhaps the only weapon from them internalizing blame is to realize that they are not alone in this. Just as birth and sickness and death are a part of life, so is this. It is easily one of its most painful chapters, but these are not "broken" women, as Hilaria emphasized. These are simply women trying to bring more love and life into this world.

"We should never be ashamed of this," Hilaria concluded. "Even when it doesn't go as planned."

Famed Tokyo sushi restaurant Jiro loses its Michelin stars - CTV News

A famed Tokyo sushi restaurant where Barack Obama is said to have enjoyed the best sushi of his life has been dropped from the latest Michelin gourmet guide after it stopped accepting reservations from the general public.

Sukiyabashi Jiro, immortalized in the 2011 documentary "Jiro Dreams of Sushi", has earned three Michelin stars every year since 2007 and is considered to dish up some of the world's greatest delicacies.

But the restaurant -- where the chef's selection starts at 40,000 yen ($360) -- was glaringly absent from the Michelin Guide Tokyo 2020 when it was unveiled to the media on Tuesday because it does not accept reservations.

"We recognise Sukiyabashi Jiro does not accept reservations from the general public, which makes it out of our scope," said a spokeswoman from the Japanese branch of Michelin.

"It was not true to say the restaurant lost stars but it is not subject to coverage in our guide," she told AFP. "Michelin's policy is to introduce restaurants where everybody can go to eat."

To win a coveted seat at the restaurant, you either need to be a regular, have special connections, or go through the concierge of a top hotel.

On its website, Sukiyabashi Jiro says it is "currently experiencing difficulties in accepting reservations" and apologises for "any inconvenience to our valued customers."

"Unfortunately, as our restaurant can only seat up to 10 guests at a time, this situation is likely to continue," it says.

The restaurant is run by sushi maestro Jiro Ono, well into his 90s, helped by his eldest son Yoshikazu.

Another branch, run by his younger son and located in the modern Roppongi Hills complex, kept its two stars as it is open to public reservations.

The main, basement restaurant opened its doors in 1965 and has remained in an ageing commercial building in a corner of the Ginza district ever since.

When then US President Barack Obama travelled to Tokyo in 2014, he joined a long list of Ono's celebrity guests, including French master chef Joel Robuchon and Hollywood stars Hugh Jackman and Katy Perry.

As Obama and Abe thrashed out trade talks, Ono senior served them his own selection of 20 pieces as he does to every diner, according to son Yoshikazu.

"He (Obama) seemed to like chu-toro (medium fatty tuna) very much because he winked when he ate it," he said.

The son said the president had eaten them all and praised the way he skilfully handled the delicacies.

"He said three times, 'This is the best sushi I've ever had in my life'," he added.

‘Queen & Slim’: Meet the Bonnie and Clyde of 2019 - Rolling Stone

Racial justice and the outrage at its absence courses through the visual and emotional powerhouse that is Queen and Slim. There’s also the exhilaration that comes from watching talents new to movies seize their moment with a passion that pins you to your seat. Director Melina Matsoukas — and artist of Greek and Afro-Cuban heritage — is best known for music videos such as Beyonce’s “Formation”; she also helmed Master of None‘s brilliant “Thanksgiving,” episode of Master of None, the same episode that made screenwriter Lena Waithe the first black woman to win an Emmy for writing a comedy. Now they’ve teamed up on what’s being labelled “the black Bonnie and Clyde.”

Queen & Slim is more than that, of course — way more. Queen, played by knockout newcomer Jodie Turner-Smith, is a confrontational defense attorney who just lost a client to the death penalty. Slim (Get Out Oscar nominee Daniel Kaluuya) works at Costco and has a license plate that reads TRUSTGOD. Judging by their first Tinder date at a diner in Cleveland, a second date feels like a remote possibility. But on the drive home, a white cop stops them for a minor traffic infraction (“failure to execute a turn signal”). They protest. And after a brief, heated exchange, the trigger-happy officer shoots Queen, leaving her bleeding from a flesh wound. Slim picks up the cop’s gun and fires. It’s clearly self defense. While the white media label them cop killers, Queen and Slim (their real names are withheld till the final credits) find pockets of support and solidarity in a black America that sees the pair as one of their own. And after a stopover at the New Orleans home of Queen’s Uncle Earl (Bokeem Woodbine), the two snap a photo that goes viral and turns the two into instant folk heroes.

Waithe’s script refuses to indulge in police stereotyping and introduces a white couple, played by Chloë Sevigny and Flea, who offer sympathy and assistance. But Queen and Slim’s notoriety also backfires when an impressionale boy (Jahi Di’Allo Winston) attacks a police officer just for wearing a uniform.
As Queen and Slim make their getaway to Florida and, hopefully, a flight to freedom in Cuba, Matzoukas slows the pacing to show the couple getting to know each other. They stop at a roadside bar where, of course, they are recognized; they’re also given the chance to stop the world and dance in a slow, sensual rhythm that they once took for granted. The sense of community in that scene, of black brothers and sisters offering the fugitives shelter from a gathering storm, is deeply moving. And the blazing performances of Turner-Smith and Kaluuya bring a distinct individual humanity to two people the world has turned into symbolic folk heroes.

The longer that Queen and Slim make their way across the American South, like runaway slaves in a millennial underground railroad, the more you find yourself rooting for them to get to safety. Matzoukas keeps the film moving to the beats of a spectacular hip-hop soundtrack and a potently percussive score by Dev Hynes. Working with cinematographer Tat Radcliffe (White Boy Rick), Matzoukas paints with light and shadow. The film’s one sex scene, as tender as it is erotic, is all about release. But Queen and Slim can’t stop looking over their shoulder, and the hope promised by the new Lauryn Hill song, “Comin’ Home,” seems painfully out of reach.

As the film moves toward its painfully inevitable climax, Queen and Slim fulfills the promise made by Waithe and Matzoukas to create a new form of protest art. Their film isn’t meant to lionize these two everyday people-turned-folk heroes, but to celebrate their strength and pride. At one point, an older black man tells them, “I would’ve took my ticket and been on my way.” Queen and Slim didn’t take that ticket. And they’re not going to let a white world crush in on them. Not without taking a stand.

The 35-year-old Gao collapsed in the eastern city of Ningbo while on the set of "Chase Me", a competitive sports reality show in China's Zhejiang Television.

World renowned sushi restaurant loses its three Michelin stars because it is too exclusive - National Post

One of the world’s famed sushi restaurants, Sukiyabashi Jiro, has lost its three Michelin stars because it is no longer open to the public.

“We recognize Sukiyabashi Jiro does not accept reservations from the general public, which makes it out of our scope,” said a Michelin Guide spokesperson. “It was not true to say the restaurant lost stars but it is not subject to coverage in our guide. Michelin’s policy is to introduce restaurants where everybody can go to eat.”

Known to many as Sushi Jiro, it’s received a three-star rating from Michelin each year since 2007, which is when the culinary guide released its first Tokyo edition.

It’s known to be the restaurant where Barack Obama dined in 2014 with Shino Abe, the Japanese prime minister. Obama said the sushi was “the best I’ve ever had”, which explains why it’s also seen guests such as Hugh Jackman, David Beckham, Anne Hathaway and chef Joël Robuchon. It was also the subject of a 2011 documentary “Jiro Dreams of Sushi”.

Sushi Jiro’s website said it was “currently experiencing difficulties in accepting reservations” and apologized for “any inconvenience to our valued customers”.

The website also added that the situation is likely to continue, since it can only seat up to 10 guests at a time.

The owner, Jiro Ono, who’s at least 90 years old, is still serving sushi at the restaurant, alongside his eldest son, Yoshikazu. His other son also runs a branch of the restaurant, which kept its two-star Michelin rating since it’s still open to the public.

The fame restaurant opened in the Ginza district in 1965. Those who manage to get a reservation, need to be ready to spend at least 40,000 yen (around $485) for the chef’s selection. They also need to either be regulars, book through a concierge at their luxury hotel, or simply have special connections.

If you’re not able to reserve a seat, don’t worry. Michelin’s 2020 guide lists 226 starred restaurants in Tokyo, the most for any city in the world.

CBC and Netflix cancelled Anne With an E. But fans of the show aren't taking the news lying down - National Post

The Netflix and CBC drama Anne With an E, adapted from Lucy Maud Montgomery’s beloved Anne of Green Gables, has been cancelled after three seasons.

In a joint statement, the networks said, “We’ve been thrilled to bring the quintessentially Canadian story of Anne With an E to viewers around the world. We’re thankful to producers Moira Walley-Beckett and Miranda de Pencier and to the talented cast and crew for their incredible work in sharing Anne’s story with a new generation. We hope fans of the show love this final season as much as we do, and that it brings a satisfying conclusion to Anne’s journey.”

In a statement posted to her Instagram, creator and executive-producer Walley-Beckett wrote, “I’m sorry for the sad Netflix/CBC news today. I wish it could be different but it cannot. We have reached the end of the red Green Gables road after three wonderful seasons. My heart is heavy but I am so proud of this show — proud of my talented cast, crew, writers, and directors for working together so passionately to bring my vision of Anne With an E to life. … I know you have loved this series as much as I have and I thank you for that forever and a day”

The series was shot in Prince Edward Island and Ontario, and starred Irish-Canadian actress Amybeth McNulty. It was praised for its modern take, which included LGBT and Indigenous storylines.

News of the cancellation has sparked a massive outcry from fans. The hashtag #SaveAnneWithAnE is still trending worldwide, with fans rallying to petition CBC to renew the series. One even mocked up a Rosie the Riveter-style portrait of McNulty as Anne.

Here is just some of what the fans have to say on Twitter: @grizzeliot: “you cant just take her away when her life was about to begin”; @keryboo: “This TV series taught us how to fight. Don’t be naive, WE WON’T GIVE UP”; @anneblytheee: “Just a reminder that this show provides important messages and talks about serious issues with such sensibility yet intensity. Our society is in need of an awakening and Anne With An E is capable of that. Don’t give up on it. It didn’t give up on you.”

The final season is set to premiere on January 3 on the streaming network, and has already aired on CBC in Canada.

Here's Proof Selena Gomez Inspired The Weeknd's Upcoming Music Release - E! Online

The Weeknd, Selena Gomez, NYFW 2017, Harpers Bazaar Party

Getty Images for Harper's BAZAAR

We can't feel our face after The Weeknd's latest announcement.

On Monday, the 29-year-old star (whose real name is Abel Tesfaye) returned to Instagram after taking a break from the social media platform to tease something exciting: a possible music release. "the fall starts tomorrow night," he cheekily captioned his post, alongside a blurry black-and-white image.

Moments later, he uploaded the same snapshot to Instagram Stories with a message that read: "tomorrow night we start again."

While the "Can't Feel My Face" singer is keeping a tight-lip on his latest release, one thing is for sure: Selena Gomez seemingly inspired one of his upcoming tunes. According to the ASCAP website, The Weeknd registered a song titled, "Like Selena."

As fans of his might recall, he and the 27-year-old star began dating in January 2017 but by October of that year, the two decided to split after 10 months of being together.

At the time, a source told E! News their busy schedules made things hard on their relationship.

Selena Gomez, The Weeknd, 2017 Met Gala, Couples

Rob Latour/REX/Shutterstock

"Selena and Abel both agreed that this relationship wasn't going to work due to his busy schedule, but Selena was the one who wanted to end it," the insider previously shared with us. "She didn't feel secure while he was away, and the schedule conflicts got very exhausting for her."

A separate source echoed the first insider's sentiments. "They are still talking and will remain friends. They have been very grown-up about it," the second insider explained. "It's been hard for them to come to the realization that this is the direction things were heading, but it's been hard for months.

The source added, "They have been open and honest about it and where they were going. Distance definitely played a factor."

However, the news of The Weeknd's possible song about Gomez comes as a surprise considering they've been broken up for quite some time. But, of course, this isn't the first time he's referenced the "Look at Her Now" songstress in his lyrics.

In 2018, his album My Dear Melancholy, was full of SelGo Easter eggs. Songs such as, "Call Out My Name," "Starboy," "Privilege," "Hurt You," "I Was Never There" and "Wasted Times" all heavily referenced the brunette beauty.

And for all we know, The Weeknd's upcoming music about Selena could have been in the works during or after their breakup. The timing of his "Like Selena" song is interesting, though, especially because the 29-year-old singer recently reunited with his ex-girlfriend, Bella Hadid (whom he dated before and after Selena).

The "Pray for Me" singer was spotted hanging out with the 23-year-old supermodel for her birthday party celebration in October, which came two months after they officially called it quits again.

It's clear The Weeknd is already hitting all the right notes and his new music hasn't even dropped yet!

‘You people’: Ontario gun shop owner evokes Don Cherry in 'White Friday’ sale - National Post

With only six weeks left till Christmas, Pembroke gun shop owner Lance Perkins decided to have a gun sale. On Thursday, he put up a sign outside his shop, Perkins Guns and Ammo, that read, ‘GUN DEALS. ALL YOU PEOPLE. COME ON IN. WHITE FRIDAY SALE.’

Two weeks later, Perkins says he’s “surprised” to find himself defending what he thought was a neutrally worded sign. ‘I’ve never had a Black Friday sale,” he said. “I still had one place left on my sign, and to be honest, after poor Trudeau screwed the word — black — with the blackface scandal, I just thought, ‘well there’s no way I can advertise a Black Friday sale,’: he said. “I didn’t want to be pulled into that nightmare.

He opted for the word ‘white’ as it reminded him of snow and the upcoming Christmas holidays. “It has nothing to do with anyone’s skin,” he emphasized repeatedly. “It doesn’t say whites only. I don’t know why it’s been blown up to be such a large issue, it’s not a racial thing.”

However, the phrase has earned Perkins some slight backlash. “A couple of ladies phoned me, they didn’t understand the sign,” he said, adding that they calmed down once he had explained the intent of the message. “I’m not here to upset anybody,” he said. “I just want to take care of my clients.”

A phrase included in the sign is also reminiscent of one used by hockey icon Don Cherry in a Sportsnet segment that earned him backlash and ultimately got him fired. However, Perkins says he doesn’t think Cherry did anything wrong and posted the slogan as a way of showing his support.

“He didn’t say it in any rude manner,” said Perkins. “To me, the guy’s a great Canadian, he inspired a great sport, went to Afghanistan, built rinks, donated money.”

Lance Perkins said the sign was not meant to target anyone’s race or skin colour, but rather to celebrate the Christmas season. Lance Perkins/Facebook

He added that he didn’t agree with the reaction to the now infamous words, “you, people”. “I don’t think that slogan was pointed at any one person or race. We have a motherhouse across the street, housing nothing but nice nuns. The only other time I’ve ever heard someone use that phrase was when one of the sisters called us and asked, ‘do you people have stamps?’,” Perkins said.

He isn’t alone. “Most people that live here in Pembroke, they have no issues with the sign at all,” he said. He isn’t a hockey fan, but believes Cherry was treated unfairly. “I believe he used the phrase many, many times over the years and it wasn’t bad five or ten years ago and it isn’t bad now,” he said. “It’s disgusting, what the sports people did to him.”

The sign has since been changed, he added, but not in response to any received complaints. Rather, it’s to keep the advertising fresh and relevant. “Now it reads ‘Merry Christmas’ on both sides and ‘I sell excalibur swords’ on one side,” he said. “It comes down to what letters I have left.”

“There was no intent of aggravating anybody. How can you aggravate anyone during Christmas?’ he asks.

Perkins has since changed the sign, although he explained that has nothing to do with any response received, and is more an effort to keep his signs fresh and relevant. Perkins Gun Shop

Fergie's pals want Prince Andrew's sex accuser 'put on the grill' - Toronto Sun

Duchess of York Sarah Ferguson’s pals want to see the woman accusing Prince Andrew of sexually assaulting her crucified on TV.

Virginia Roberts should be “put on the grill” by BBC’s famed Panorama current affairs program when she is interviewed, friends say, according to The Telegraph.

Roberts was just 15 when she says she was lured into the orbit of sinister serial pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, who was a close friend of Prince Andrew.

She claims she had underage sex three times with Andrew when she was 17. He has denied any wrongdoing.

But in the court of public opinion, the Duke of York, 59, has come off as entitled and obtuse, and was cold and remorseless during a disastrous BBC interview.

In the wake of the train-wreck appearance, Queen Elizabeth effectively fired Andrew from his public duties.

Now, Roberts is slated to appear in an episode of Panorama airing Monday. Fergie’s friends are having none of it.

“She (Roberts) should be properly cross-examined on all the evidence that doesn’t stack up,” a friend of the Duchess of York told the Daily Telegraph.

“She should be put on the rack. The BBC cannot drill him as they did and just believe her when there are lots of inconsistencies.”

One niggling point that Andrew’s toff supporters have pointed to is the infamous photo where he has his arm draped around Roberts while Ghislaine Maxwell beams on.

Fergie’s friends are demanding Roberts reveals how much she was paid for the photo. Some of the duke’s friends have suggested it has been doctored.

Fergie reportedly wants to put the Roberts-Epstein affair behind the family ahead of Beatrice’s wedding next year.

There has been some discrepancy over whose brainstorm it was to put the prince in front of the cameras.

Initial reports said it was Fergie and their eldest daughter, Princess Beatrice, who pushed Andrew into the interview. But it has also been reported that the pair tried to stop the disaster.

At a recent soiree, Beatrice was said to be sobbing over the implosion of her father’s reputation.

“Beatrice was sombre and makeup-free for the birthday dinner,” a friend told the Daily Mail.

“She was probably worried that her mascara would run. She seemed quite tearful at times. In fact, Beatrice has been in tears every day since the interview went out.”

The prince has denied any wrongdoing but in the BBC chat, admitted he “let the side down” by visiting Epstein in New York after he was released from jail for child sex offences.

Authorities say Epstein, 66, killed himself in a Manhattan jail cell in August while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

CBC/Netflix show 'Anne with an E' cancelled after three seasons - MobileSyrup

CBC and Netflix co-production Anne with an E has been cancelled after three seasons.

The show, which won seven awards at the Canadian Screen Awards earlier this year, has run its course after the conclusion of its third season.

The news comes from the Instagram account of the show’s Canadian creator Moira Walley-Beckett, but it was foreshadowed in early October when the CBC cut ties with Netflix.

Walley-Beckett made a name for herself writing and producing Breaking Bad before she began adapting Lucy Maud Montgomery’s classic Canadian series Anne of Green Gables for modern audiences.

The Netflix/CBC show took a gritter look at life on Prince Edward Island in the late 19th century while also offering stunning scenes that showcased Canada in a high-quality way. Personally, I was a huge fan of the show and will be joining many other Canadians on Twitter with #Renew Anne with an E and #Renew AWAE hashtags.

You can watch all three seasons of the show on the CBC Gem app right now, or wait until they hit Netflix on January 3rd.

This is one of a few shows that Netflix was co-producing with the Candian broadcaster. Anne With an E being cancelled, this doesn’t leave a lot of hope for the remaining shows like Northern Rescue and Alias Grace.

In regards to CBC backing out if its deal with Netflix, the broadcaster’s CEO Cathrine Tait told the Content Canada podcast that she saw the deal with the streaming service as more of a way to bolster Netflix instead of creating more opportunities and growing the Canadian media industry.

As noted by the Financial Post, this is a significant shift from when Tait told media that the cost-saving partnership was the future of the CBC.
