Ghostbusters director Jason Reitman has revealed the first look at the cast of the new sequel, including Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard, Captain Marvel actress Mckenna Grace, and Carrie Coon.
Jason Reitman’s Ghostbusters sequel will focus on a single mother and her family, with Carrie Coon as the mother to Stranger Things‘ Finn Wolfhard. How these new characters are connected to the original Ghostbusters team is still under wraps, however, Sigourney Weaver recently teased the film will reunite her with Dan Aykroyd, Ernie Hudson, and Bill Murray but this has yet to be confirmed.
With production now finally underway, director Jason Reitman has taken to social media to tease the first look at the cast including Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard. You can check out his post below.
So what do you think? Are you excited to see Stranger Things star Finn Wolfhard make the jump to the Ghostbusters franchise? Do you think Finn Wolfhard was a good choice for the project? Let us know in the comments below!
Jason Reitman is directing the film from a script he co-wrote with Poltergeist remake director Gil Kena. The project is scheduled to be released in theaters in 2020. In addition to Finn Wolfhard, Mckenna Grace, and Carrie Coon, Ant-Man star Paul Rudd has also joined the cast.
Since the new Ghostbusters was announced, the project has been under fire from those involved with the 2016 reboot. Melissa McCarthy has already expressed her support Jason Reitman, however, Leslie Jones slammed the new sequel, going as far to say that it was “something Trump would do.” Director Paul Feig, on the other hand, has shown his support for both Leslie Jones and her position on the new sequel, while also supporting Jason Reitman taking the reigns of the franchise his father Ivan Reitman created in 1984 with the original Ghostbusters.
As for Finn Wolfhard, the actor can currently be seen starring in Stranger Things 3 on Netflix. Here’s the official synopsis:
“It’s 1985 in Hawkins, Indiana, and summer’s heating up. School’s out, there’s a brand new mall in town, and the Hawkins crew are on the cusp of adulthood. Romance blossoms and complicates the group’s dynamic, and they’ll have to figure out how to grow up without growing apart. Meanwhile, danger looms. When the town’s threatened by enemies old and new, Eleven and her friends are reminded that evil never ends; it evolves. Now they’ll have to band together to survive, and remember that friendship is always stronger than fear.”
Stranger Things stars Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Sadie Sink, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, Joe Keery, Dacre Montgomery, Maya Hawke, Priah Ferguson, and Cara Buono.
