Elton John is glad he and his mother ended years of estrangement before she died, but he doesn’t miss her.
The rocker’s mum fell out with him after he announced his civil partnership and the pair didn’t speak for over six years until Elton decided to stage a reconciliation at his home in the U.K.
Elton tells pal Sharon Osbourne he was warned the get together would be awkward, but he’s glad he and his mother were able to sit and chat before she passed away in December 2017.
“I didn’t want her to die without me reaching out with an olive branch, because she’s my mother,” Elton says. “When I did reconcile, she came to lunch… and I said, ‘I just wanted to tell you I love you’, and she said, ‘Well, I love you too, but I don’t like you’.
“That was the way she was and I had to accept it. Do I miss her? No I don’t. I hope she rests in peace. I do love her still… I think of her. I have a picture (of her) hanging in my kitchen… but it’s a funny relationship and that was the way it was.”
Elton’s interview with Sharon aired on her U.S. daytime show The Talk on Wednesday.
