Look, we really, really liked the Joker movie here at IGN. We loved it so much we gave it our first 10 out of 10 movie review score for the year. Like any popular movie though, there’s a wide variety of opinions both positive, middling, and negative. So we thought we’d just cut through the chaff and ask the IGN community directly what they thought of Joker, and exactly 23,400 of you responded.

The top opinion on Joker is...well, not an opinion at all. 43% of respondents to our poll said they have yet to see Joker in theaters. We can’t say exactly why so many haven’t gone out and seen it -- each person certainly has their own reasons: A lack of time or money, no real interest in a movie tackling the infamous comic book villain, and of course, the potential danger of attending a movie screening in modern America. The families of the victims of the 2012 Aurora, Colorado shooting (in which a man fired a gun into a theatrical showing of The Dark Knight, killing 12) sent a letter to Warner Bros, expressing their worry that the film could incite similar violence, spurring an ongoing discussion about the depiction of violence and mentally unstable behavior exhibited by characters like Joker.
Like we said, there’s no way to really know why people didn’t show up, so we’ll just have to chalk this one up as a mystery for now.

A good chunk of IGN fans unsurprisingly really enjoyed Joker, and hey, we can see why. Reviewer Jim Vejvoda praised Joker for actor Joaquin Phoenix’s “unnervingly” excellent portrayal of the Joker, as well as what it says about the violence and cruelty inflicted upon the downtrodden from all levels of society.
A smaller, but still decent chunk of IGN fans simply liked Joker, and there isn’t anything wrong with that.
Rounding out our results is a gradually declining opinion of Joker.

I Hated It - 1.8%
Overall, it seems the IGN community largely enjoyed Joker. You can’t please everyone, though, so a few negative critics are certainly to be expected.
