Cineplex to offer free family movies for charity this holiday season - Edmonton Journal

Sarah Van Lange, executive director of communications for Cineplex and Scott Whetham, executive director of operations for Cineplex in Alberta, are surrounded by falling snow as they pose for a photo in the new 4DX Auditorium at Scotiabank Theatre in West Edmonton Mall, Wednesday Oct. 23, 2019. The snow is actually a soap bubble mixture. The new 4DX auditorium provides moviegoers with an immersive, multi-sensory experience, allowing the audience to connect with movies through motion, vibration, wind, snow, lightning, scents, and other special effects that enhance the visuals on screen. Three Edmonton movie theatres are getting in the holiday spirit by offering free family movies on Dec. 7, Cineplex said on Tuesday.

In celebration of Community Day, tickets at participating Cineplex locations will be free on Dec. 7 for 9:30 a.m. showings of movies including Elf, Gremlins, The Polar Express, A Christmas Story and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation.

In Edmonton, Cineplex North Edmonton, South Edmonton Common, and Cinema City Movies 12 locations are participating.

The proceeds from donations and selling some concession snacks for $2.50 will go towards supporting Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada.

“This year, we are excited to host our ninth annual Community Day fundraiser in support of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada and their work in creating opportunities for children and youth across the country to connect, learn, play and have fun,” said Cineplex president and CEO Ellis Jacob in a news release.

Tickets will be on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 9 a.m.
