THUNDER BAY — Thunder Bay-born writer Michael Christie has been longlisted for the Scotiabank Giller Prize for his newest novel, Greenwood.
To be released later this month, the publishers describe the book as a "propulsive, multigenerational family story in which the unexpected legacies of a remote island off the B.C. coast will link the fates of five people over a hundred years."
The story begins in the year 2038 in the wake of a global environmental collapse.
Christie, who currently lives in B.C., previously authored If I Fall, If I Die, and The Beggar's Garden, which were also longlisted for the $100,000 Giller Prize
Other nominees this year include Margaret Atwood's The Testaments, Days by Moonlight by Andre Alexis, Michael Crummey for The Innocents, and Steven Price for Lampedusa.
The short list will be announced on Sept. 30 and the winner revealed at a gala in Toronto on Nov. 18.
