Box Office: Joker Scores $55 Million Second Weekend - IGN - IGN

Breaking more October box office records, Todd Phillips' Joker took in an estimated $55 million 3-day haul for its second weekend, breaking the previous 3-day second weekend record set by 2013's Gravity, which took in $43.1 million back in 2013.As Deadline reports, estimates had Joker pulling in about $10 million less. Right now, heading into its third weekend, the movie is just shy of cracking $200 million domestically. Joker pulled in an additional $125.7 million overseas.

As its global box office hits $500 million, Joker stands as Phillips' second highest-grossing film after The Hangover 2. This will change in a week's time, however.

Joker was parodied on SNL over the weekend, in a Digital Short that imagined Sesame Street's Oscar the Grouch as Joker.

The animated Addams Family film, featuring the voices of Oscar Isaac and Charlize Theron, opened with $30.3 million, earning more than the debut of 1991's live-action version. Meanwhile, Ang Lee's high-concept Gemini Man, starring Will Smith as both an assassin and his younger clone, only conjured up $20.5 million domestically for its first weekend.

North American Box Office Estimates

Even with The Addams Family and Gemini Man debuting, both Abominable and Downtown Abbey continued to add to their impressive takes, with the films reaching $82.7 million and $152.2 million, respectively.

The Adam Devine comedy Jexi stumbled out of the gate with only $3.1 million. Jexi stands as CBS Films' final movie, as CBS Films is reportedly folding into its parent corporation’s CBS Entertainment Group by the end of the year.
