Van Halen fans most likely won’t be seeing another reunion of the band, according to a recent interview with David Lee Roth. Roth made the statement on Detroit radio station WRIF’s Meltdown show.

“That’s been cancelled a number of times,” Roth said when asked about a Van Halen reunion tour, “and I think Van Halen’s finished and this is the next phase” – referring to his solo residency at the Las Vegas House of Blues, which commences next year. The singer will bring a roster of classic hits to nine shows at the venue.

“I’ve inherited the band de facto,” Roth continued, “whatever that means. I think it means if you inherit it, carry this proudly. Van Halen isn’t gonna be coming back in the fashion that you know.”

The statement comes after a period of inactivity from Van Halen – after a stadium tour in 2015, the band have not played any shows or recorded any music. This statement from David Lee Roth, and the fact his solo shows feature Van Halen material prominently, seem to confirm the hiatus will be permanent.

Van Halen’s latest studio album, A Different Kind of Truth, was released in 2012, featuring Roth on vocals, and Eddie, Alex and Wolfgang Van Halen on guitar, drums and bass.
